Cartmel Village Rides

Cartmel is one of the most romantic settings in England to suprise your loved one with a proposal of marriage. And what could be a more memorable way to propose than on a champagne carriage ride. or, you might have a special anniversary to celebrate or simply want to say ‘I love you’!

Our carriage rides round the picturesque village of Cartmel in the Southern Lake District have been a huge success. Celebrate a sunny day or special occasion by taking a gentle ride round the country lanes and surrounding woodlands in one of our carriages pulled by our magnificent Friesian horses.

Carriage rides are available throughout the year - from Sundays to Fridays. Reservations can be made up to 3 weeks in advance.

We can pick you up in the village or if you are staying nearby we can bring the horse and carriage to your door! We can collect from most locations in the Cartmel area. In the event of wet weather we are happy to go ahead, however understand if you would rather rearrange for a brighter day!

Picnic drives, custom rides, flowers and chocolates are also available on request.

Whether you want to propose to a loved one, enjoy a ride round the village with your partner or whole family, have a lift to the restaurant or a romantic champagne amble through the woodlands, a ride with our horse and carriage is guaranteed to create a wonderful memory of your visit to Cartmel.

There is plenty to see and do in Cartmel, with its famous Cartmel Racecourse and the ancient medieval Priory. You can browse through some of the wonderful shops, have a spot of lunch perhaps at The Cavendish Arms before purchasing a world famous Sticky Toffee Pudding from the Village Store.

There are also lots of places to stay. The Cavendish Arms is a cosy and traditional place to stay, L'enclume is a modern, boutique restaurant with rooms, and Ford House offers self-catering accommodation.
